news > One more step towards a safe haven for greater horseshoe bats

13th October 2022

Thanks to the hard work of a small group of volunteers from Sussex Bat Group and Surrey Bat Group, we have started to prepare the new greater horseshoe bat reserve in West Sussex.

Fantastic work by Sussex Bat Group and Surrey Bat Group volunteers.

We can’t start work on the building yet as the bats are still in residence, but as soon as they move to their winter roosts, we can begin to make the building weatherproof and secure…and turn it into a safe maternity roost for this pioneering group of greater horseshoe bats so that they can raise more pups next spring.

A huge Thank You to all who have so generously donated so far to purchase the building. We still need to raise more funds to carry out the urgent repair works and to turn it into a safe haven for greater horseshoe bats in southeast England.

Please donate and help us to do this in time for when the bats return in spring.
