news > Sussex Bat Appeal – the latest

27th September 2021

Great News! We have raised the deposit to take the Stables in West Sussex off the open market!

A small but significant group of greater horseshoe bats has recently been discovered using this dilapidated building as a maternity roost. This is  very exciting as it is the first known breeding population east of its current stronghold in southwest England.

But we have a long way to go to make this derelict building the perfect maternity roost for this species.

Please keep sharing this appeal with friends and colleagues so that we can work with Sussex Bat Group to raise the rest of the purchase (£200K) and renovation costs (£150K) and help the return of greater horseshoe bats to the rest of southeast England.

Thank you!
